Preserving Your Shears

Our Method

It is important to do your research before handing over your precious hairdressing scissors for sharpening. Opting for a cheaper method could prove to be a costly mistake.

At Hello Scissor Co, our customers’ shears are honed (lapped) not ground! Grinding unfortunately destroys fragile convex edges in seconds and gradually weakens or destroys the blade. Our sharpening method of honing uses slower rotating equipment allowing for more targeted and precise sharpening of both convex and beveled edge shears every time. Our process uses premium micron graded mineral particles to produce a super-fine, consistent finish. Hello’s process is like polishing a car, where only the upper layer of oxidization is removed to bring out the shine without removing and wearing through the paint. The end result is less metal removed, leaving a shear that could last you a lifetime!

We are proud to be one of the only companies in Canada that offers full convex hairdressing scissor sharpening and we will ensure that all convex edges are carefully preserved.

Step 1

Shear blades are carefully examined under magnification to identify any damage, then disassembled and cleaned.

Step 2

The blades’ ride-line is hand restored.

Step 3

Blades are sharpened by hand using advanced precision equipment, designed exclusively for sharpening professional hairdressing scissors.

Step 4

Blades are polished on a crystallite pad and a final leather stropping is completed to ensure a razor shape edge.

Step 5

Any parts that are worn or need replacing such as screws, washers, and scissor bumpers are replaced free of charge.

Step 6

Scissors are reassembled, lubricated, re-tensioned, and balanced.

Step 7

A cut test along the length of the blades using specialty fabric or hair is done.

Step 8

Lastly, your shears are carefully packaged for return to you.
